Hodag Dome

Hodag Dome Tennis Courts Situated at 538 Lincoln Street, Rhinelander, WI 54501, adjacent to Rhinelander High School, the Hodag Dome is the largest air-supported high school dome in the United States. Spanning over 128,000 square feet, this climate-controlled indoor facility offers a unique tennis experience in northern Wisconsin, especially valuable during the region’s long, snowy winters. Opened to the public in February 2021, it serves students, athletes, and the community with a variety of sports facilities, including top-notch tennis courts.

Number of Courts: The Hodag Dome features four indoor tennis courts, which are also lined for pickleball, providing flexibility for both sports. These courts are part of a multi-use setup that can accommodate various activities simultaneously. Surface: The tennis courts have a hard court surface, distinct from the dome’s synthetic turf field used for football and soccer. This surface ensures a consistent bounce and is ideal for year-round play.

Lighting: The facility is fully lit with a combination of natural light from its translucent roof and artificial LED lighting, allowing play from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (or later for reserved events). The lighting eliminates shadows, making evening matches as clear as daytime ones—a critical feature for Wisconsin’s short winter days. Amenities and Accessibility

Hours: Open to the public from 6:00 a.m. to noon and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. most days, with extended hours for scheduled events. Courts require reservations via the MindBody software on the School District of Rhinelander website. Check the calendar for availability, as school activities may take priority.

Cost: Tennis court use for non-residents (outside the Rhinelander School District) is $20 per court per hour, while pickleball is $10 per court per hour. Residents pay reduced rates with a Facility ID Card ($15/year for locals, $40/year for non-residents). A $5 day pass is available for walk-ins, though court reservations incur additional fees.

Additional Features: The dome offers over 500 parking spaces, making access easy even during busy events. Restrooms, a baby changing station, and water stations are available, though only water is allowed on the courts and turf. The facility is 100% handicapped accessible. While there’s no dedicated dog park, the dome includes a 100-meter track, batting cages, golf simulators, and turf fields for community use.

Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible car park, Wheelchair-accessible entrance
